Yu Minhong: I have experienced a storm of online abuse. If I had paid too much attention to external public opinion, I might not have made it to today.
Topic: 2026 Yabuli Forum Annual Conference
On March 17, at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Yabuli Forum Annual Conference, Yu Minhong, Chairman of New Oriental Education Technology Group, delivered the opening speech.
He stated that his exposure online might be more than all the entrepreneurs present; it could be either positive news, negative news, or various storms of online abuse.
Yu Minhong mentioned that one of his insights is that no matter what you do, you need to do the right thing. He has two standards for what is right: first, your intention must be right; what you aim to achieve by doing this must be right; second, your business model must be right. As long as you claim to be a company, you must have a good business model. Some models may require several twists and turns, while others are more straightforward.
He also emphasized that during the process, we cannot be influenced by temporary fluctuations or difficulties of the company. “To be frank, if over the past three or four years I had been swayed by various external opinions and had paid too much attention to them, I probably wouldn’t be here today, and Dongfang Zhenxuan might not be here today either. Because if you pay too much attention to public opinion, it affects your emotions, your mood, your confidence, and your strategy.”
