Uber and NVIDIA expand autonomous vehicle partnership, aiming for launch by 2027
Nvidia and Uber are expanding their collaboration to utilize Nvidia’s Drive Hyperion autonomous vehicle platform, planning to launch a global fleet of driverless taxis.
The two companies and their automotive manufacturing partners will begin rolling out vehicles in Los Angeles and San Francisco in the first half of next year, and then expand to 28 cities in Europe, Australia, Asia, and North America by 2028.
These vehicles will also use Nvidia’s Alpamayo, an artificial intelligence model designed to handle complex driving scenarios. The deployment of these vehicles will start with data collection cars used to train Alpamayo, then transition to a phase using human drivers, before moving on to fully driverless cars. Uber’s stock rose by 5.1%.
