Vivo Robot Lab Chief Scientist Shao Hao: It may only be when a company produces 100,000 robots, such as possibly one company producing 100,000 robots, that mass production and cost reduction can truly be achieved.

On March 25, it was reported that the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2026 is being held from March 24 to 27 in Boao, Hainan. Shao Hao, chief scientist of vivo Robot Lab, stated during a dialogue with media such as Sina Finance that from this year’s perspective, it is difficult to reduce costs and achieve mass production in mechanical hardware without standardization. For instance, structures of bipedal designs, hands, and motors—there is still no consensus in the entire industry.

Therefore, in Shao Hao’s view, it may take at least one company producing 100,000 robots before the industry can reach a consensus on the structure of electrical joints and hands, which would enable true mass production and cost reduction.

Regarding Hangzhou’s proactive preparation for legislation on embodied robots, he believes managing it through a sandbox approach is beneficial. “Under the premise of ensuring safety, the government can allow companies more freedom to do more things within the regulatory sandbox, which is conducive to innovation. I hope the government provides more policy support.”

When discussing the “Shrimp War,” Shao Hao pointed out that this is actually a positive development. Because whether it was the previous Agent or the current shrimp farming, they both expand the concept of AI. “It’s not a specific technology, but rather a hope that we can use a newer technology to enhance productivity. I think this is a good thing. We are also working on a ‘shrimp’ for mobile phones, so stay tuned.”
