Strong momentum! Top 10 emerging industries for 2026 revealed
Source: Beijing Business Today
The future industry development momentum is strong, and the energy is accelerating. On March 26, Beijing Business Today reporters learned at the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Meeting Future Industry Innovation Development Forum that the report on “Top Ten Tracks of Future Industries in 2026” was officially released. Zhu Min, Vice President of the China Electronic Information Industry Development Research Institute (CCID), elaborated on the “top ten tracks” including humanoid robots/embodied intelligence, bio-manufacturing, brain-computer interfaces, cell and gene therapy, autonomous agents, low-altitude equipment, nuclear fusion energy, high-level autonomous driving, satellite internet, and quantum computing, and stated that in the future, they will continue to release annual research results on the “top ten tracks” to provide forward-looking guidance for cultivating and expanding future industries.
Track One: Humanoid Robots/Embodied Intelligence
Embodied intelligence will achieve breakthroughs in form emergence, perception evolution, and physical realization. It is estimated that the global embodied intelligence market will have a compound annual growth rate of 73% over the next five years, expected to reach 238.8 billion yuan by 2030. China’s humanoid robot companies are divided into three major camps: complete machine manufacturing, large internet companies, and embodied intelligence startups. The four major application scenarios of industrial manufacturing, commercial performances, special applications, and home services are expected to be key focus areas for industry implementation in 2026.
Track Two: Bio-Manufacturing
Bio-manufacturing is entering a deep empowerment period with AI, where intelligent fermentation is pushing the production model from “experience-driven” to “model-driven.” It is predicted that by 2050, it is expected to create a value of 30 trillion dollars, with the commercialization of bio-aviation fuel accelerating. In terms of policy, the “14th Five-Year Plan” lists bio-manufacturing as one of the seven future industry tracks, and eight departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have issued the “Implementation Opinions on the Special Action of ‘Artificial Intelligence + Manufacturing’,” highlighting it as a key empowerment area.
Track Three: Brain-Computer Interfaces
It is predicted that by 2030, the global market size of brain-computer interfaces will reach 6.43 billion dollars, with a compound annual growth rate of 16.48% from 2023 to 2033. In the future, brain-computer interface technology will develop towards high performance, bidirectional interaction, and information security, achieving efficient human-computer communication while ensuring data privacy. Medical rehabilitation, cognitive enhancement, consumer entertainment, and sleep regulation are expected to be the four major scenarios to land first.
Track Four: Cell and Gene Therapy
The three core technology paths of cell therapy, stem cell therapy, and gene therapy are accelerating iteration breakthroughs. In terms of market size, several agencies predict that the global cell and gene therapy market will maintain a high growth rate of over 20% in the future. Four directions are worth focusing on: in vivo CAR-T therapies disrupting traditional ex vivo preparation modes, non-viral vectors achieving breakthroughs in safety and efficiency, gene editing entering the era of large-scale insertion, and stem cells and regenerative medicine accelerating clinical validation.
Track Five: Autonomous Agents
The capabilities of autonomous agents are experiencing a revolutionary leap, capable of automatically handling daily tasks, assisting development, and optimizing business operations, becoming efficient intelligent assistants. Currently, autonomous agents are giving rise to new organizational forms like “one-person companies,” significantly broadening individual capabilities. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to the problems brought by increased permissions for agents, such as misoperations and data leaks, making the establishment of a comprehensive security governance system a key to the healthy development of the industry.
Track Six: Low-Altitude Equipment
Technological evolution shows three core trends. In terms of power systems, dual drives of electrification and hydrogen energy are significantly enhancing the endurance of aircraft with high-energy solid-state batteries and hydrogen fuel cell technologies; in terms of intelligent operation, relying on AI, 5G-A, and low Earth orbit satellite technologies, it is achieving a transformation from manned control to unmanned operations that are autonomously perceived and intelligently decided; in terms of scenario ecology, lineage and modular design are accelerating the industrialization of technological achievements.
Track Seven: Nuclear Fusion Energy
As an important development direction for future clean energy, nuclear fusion energy development shows three positive trends. Diverse technological routes like tokamaks and stellarators are accelerating breakthroughs, and significant progress has been made in global superconducting tokamak devices; the enthusiasm for global commercialization investment continues to increase, with an average compound annual growth rate of 50% in total investment over the past five years; in addition, the policy support system continues to improve.
Track Eight: High-Level Autonomous Driving
In terms of industrialization progress, 2026 will mark the explosive first year for commercial robot taxis. In terms of technology, end-to-end architecture has become the mainstream technical path, achieving dual enhancements in safety and efficiency. In terms of commercialization, the globalization and deployment of autonomous driving companies are accelerating. In terms of autonomous driving applications, by the end of 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will issue the first batch of L3 conditional autonomous driving vehicle admission licenses in China.
Track Nine: Satellite Internet
With the large-scale deployment of low Earth orbit satellite constellations, the satellite internet industry is transitioning from the technology verification stage to the commercial realization stage. In China, the China Star Network GW constellation and Shanghai Qianfan constellation continue to advance, significantly increasing the cumulative number of launched satellites. Direct mobile phone connection to satellites is becoming a new potential growth point for the industry, and with the improvement of terminal and constellation capabilities, it will enter a rapid volume stage in the coming years. Application scenarios such as marine communication, air traffic, and emergency communication are emerging.
Track Ten: Quantum Computing
As a disruptive frontier technology, quantum computing is entering a critical breakthrough period. China has achieved milestone progress in core areas such as quantum error correction and quantum superiority. The pace of commercialization continues to accelerate, with a projected compound annual growth rate of over 30% in market size over the next decade, expected to exceed 100 billion dollars by 2035. Application scenarios are continuously expanding from drug research and development and artificial intelligence to financial analysis and materials science.
