The spokesperson of the Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, Hatem Anbiya, issued a statement on March 11 regarding the regional situation, warning that Iran may carry out retaliatory actions against the economic targets of the United States and Israel in the region, and urging the public to stay away from potential targets such as banks. In the statement, the agency’s spokesperson said that on the 10th, U.S. forces and Israel carried out a strike on a bank facility inside Iran. He said that, with the military target failing to achieve its intended objective, the U.S. and Israel instead turned to attacking Iran’s economic facilities. The statement said this action is “an illegal and unusual practice in wartime,” and added that it has “opened the door for Iran to strike the economic institutions and banking targets of the United States and Israel in the region.” He warned that the U.S. should be prepared to endure a “painful response.” The statement also specifically reminded people in the region that, to ensure safety, they should avoid staying within a one-kilometer radius around banks.
