How did the young employees here manage to "win fans"?
“Previously, I wanted to learn oil painting after work but couldn’t find a place. Now, the evening worker school offers oil painting classes at the Workers’ Cultural Palace, not far from my workplace. I attend every week and have already completed two independent works.” On March 24, Fan Wenqin, a young employee from Decheng District, Dezhou City, Shandong Province, showcased her oil painting works to reporters, her words filled with a sense of achievement. This is a specific measure implemented by the Decheng District Federation of Trade Unions to fulfill the three-in-one work system.
In recent years, the Decheng District Federation has prioritized serving young employees as a key part of enhancing urban development vitality, creating a work system of “ideological guidance, platform building, and growth empowerment,” responding to the demands of the new generation of workers with diversified services, and striving to build a “youth-friendly union” that is warm, attractive, and offers a sense of belonging, making the union a “youth harbor” for young workers to settle in Decheng.
Ideological Guidance to Forge Souls, Solving the “Weak Participation Motivation”
“On the welding job, my mentor taught me not just the skills but also the spirit of striving for excellence. This deepened my understanding of ‘labor creates value.’” At the “micro-sharing” event in the Chengping Innovation Studio at Huaneng Dezhou Power Plant, young worker Li Ruixin’s story resonated with his colleagues.
To make ideological guidance more acceptable to young workers, the Decheng District Federation innovated promotional carriers, organizing the establishment of model worker and craftsman promotion teams and youth employee promotion teams. Through “micro-sharing,” growth story meetings, short videos, and other formats favored by young workers, they transformed “big principles” into “everyday matters,” conducting over 200 promotional sessions, covering more than 20,000 young workers.
At the same time, the Decheng District Federation created immersive scenarios to make value recognition “real.” During important times such as International Labor Day, they hosted cultural performances for workers and exhibitions showcasing model workers and craftspeople under the theme “Crafting Dreams, Leading with Labor”; produced micro-films that promoted the exemplary deeds of advanced young workers both online and offline. They integrated the concept of “Chinese Dream · Labor Beauty” into the spiritual world of young workers, guiding individual growth in sync with urban development.
Additionally, the Decheng District Federation moved the “Chinese Workers’ Great Ideological and Political Course” to enterprise workshops and union stations, carrying out activities like “10 Minutes During Break” and “Learning Together After Shift,” making ideological education more three-dimensional and concrete.
Building Platforms to Lay Foundations, Solving the “Weak Sense of Belonging”
“Friday night street dance club training is the moment I look forward to the most. I can practice dancing with my friends and showcase the vitality of us industrial workers through original street dance.” Young worker Chen Yanan excitedly shared the gains from participating in the club.
It is understood that the Decheng District Federation guides grassroots organizations to strengthen interest clubs, allowing young workers to “play together.” They established clubs such as street dance, rock, and choir based on young workers’ interests, hosting trendy activities like stand-up comedy performances and rock concerts, attracting over 1,000 young workers; original songs such as “The Glory of Workers,” street dances like “Be the Best Version of Yourself,” and performances like “Comparison” became a “youth platform” for young workers to release pressure and showcase individuality.
Considering that young workers are busy with work and have limited learning time, the Decheng District Federation relies on the Workers’ Cultural Palace to launch 16 types of customized courses such as oil painting, intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting, workplace etiquette, and guitar lessons during off-hours and weekends, conducting a total of 410 sessions, serving over 60,000 young workers.
To address the conflicts of tight schedules and lengthy commutes for young workers, the Decheng District Federation has conducted 30 sessions of the “Worker Benefit Express” project near enterprises and institutions, providing interactive, menu-style cultural services tailored to needs, meeting the diverse and multifaceted spiritual and cultural demands of young workers.
Additionally, the Decheng District Federation organized 35 social events during traditional festivals such as Lantern Festival and Qixi, attracting over 2,000 single youths to participate, resulting in 20 pairs of youth connections.
Empowering Growth to Improve Quality, Solving the “Slow Career Development”
Collaborating with key enterprises and entrepreneurial parks, they organized over 10 online and offline recruitment events, offering more than 400 job positions and attracting over 10,000 participants; providing policy consulting and resource matching services for young entrepreneurs, assisting them in having “support for employment and direction for entrepreneurship”… The Decheng District Federation continues to enhance employment and entrepreneurship services, giving young workers the confidence to grow.
At the same time, the Decheng District Federation built pathways for skill enhancement, ensuring young workers have a route for growth. The Federation collaborated with leading enterprises and vocational schools to establish “Youth Skill Enhancement Classes,” focusing on fields such as intelligent manufacturing and modern services, providing training in CNC operations and e-commerce operations; implementing the “Mentor-Mentee Pairing · Green and Blue Project,” matching over 300 pairs of experienced technicians with young workers to help them quickly enhance their job abilities.
In recent years, the Decheng District Federation also continued to hold vocational skills competitions and “Innovative Ideas Collection” activities, allowing young workers to enhance their vocational skill levels through competition, showcasing their talent and realizing their value.
“In the vocational skills competition’s hairdressing category, I not only won an award but also improved my technical level, which gives me more motivation to delve into my work,” young worker Yue Kexin proudly said.
