ChainCatcher message, according to a report by the UK’s The Guardian, the UK government will officially publish today its review report on regulations for political funding in the UK, including measures to strengthen safeguards against foreign funds (including cryptocurrency) interfering with democracy.

Previously, Nathan Gill, the former leader of the Reform Party’s Wales wing, was sentenced to 10 and a half years for taking bribes in the form of cryptocurrency. The core of the report is expected to include a ban on political parties accepting cryptocurrency donations, on the grounds that cryptocurrency is anonymous and difficult to trace, and could be used by other countries to circumvent existing rules and interfere with UK elections. The UK Labour government plans to incorporate the findings of the review into the upcoming Elections and Democracy Bill, in order to comprehensively tighten oversight of political donations.
