Bhutan, a small Himalayan kingdom in Asia, has recently made a significant shift in its strategy regarding bitcoин ($BTC). According to data indicating the cessation of the country’s state mining company, Bhutan sold about 70% of its bitcoin reserves over the past 18 months. In October 2024, Bhutan’s sovereign fund, Druk Holding and Investments, held approximately 13,000 bitcoin, but according to current data, this figure has fallen to 3,954 $BTC. With a current market capitalization of about $280.6 million USD, this reserve represents an overall decline of approximately 70%. It should also be noted that, as recently as 2026, bitcoin worth roughly $215.7 million USD were transferred. On the other hand, activity in the country’s bitcoin mining sector also appears to have declined significantly. According to blockchain data, it has been more than a year since Bhutan last generated mining revenue exceeding $100,000. In addition, Druk Holding has made no new statements regarding this matter.
