Leaders of UN agencies call for accountability for violations of international law in the Middle East region

On April 11, the heads of several UN agencies called for an end to the phenomenon of violations of international law in the Middle East region going unpunished. In a joint statement, world leaders expressed their shock at the "ongoing violations of the rules of war and international humanitarian law" in the region. The statement pointed out, "Even in war, there are rules, and these rules must be respected." Just last month, thousands of civilians were killed or injured in the Middle East, and hundreds of thousands were displaced. The statement demands that all parties respect their legal obligations to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and that all violations be held accountable.
