Alphabet announces it will spin off its fiber broadband internet subsidiary GFiber
Tech Home, March 13 – Google parent company Alphabet announced on March 11 local time that it will spin off its fiber broadband internet subsidiary GFiber(, formerly Google Fiber).
GFiber will merge with broadband operator Astound, a subsidiary of alternative investment firm Stonepeak, with Alphabet retaining a minority stake in the new company. The transaction is expected to be completed in Q4 2026, subject to usual conditions and regulatory approval.
Tech Home notes that GFiber currently provides services in parts of nearly 20 states in the United States, widely offering residential broadband with symmetrical speeds of 1Gbps/3Gbps/8Gbps, priced at $70/$100/$150 per month(Tech Home note: the current exchange rate is approximately 481.7/688.1/1032 RMB), and there are also experimental services such as a $250/month 20Gbps plan and commercial 1Gbps plans.
