As the countdown to the U.S. strikes on Iran’s power plants draws near, nuclear officials have issued warnings: if Israel or U.S. forces direct their sights at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, it could trigger a radioactive incident that spreads across the entire region. If Tehran does not comply with Trump’s final ceasefire ultimatum, its only operational nuclear power plant—located along the Persian Gulf coast, facing neighboring Arab countries—could become a strike target. White House officials, including U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Walz, have refused to rule out the possibility of the Bushehr nuclear plant being targeted.

This 1-gigawatt nuclear power plant is located about 70 kilometers southeast of Khark Island, and the surrounding area has been targeted four times in the past several weeks, prompting warnings from the International Atomic Energy Agency. On Sunday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said in a statement that these attacks could lead to serious radioactive accidents extending beyond Iran’s borders.
