Two high school seniors from Santa Barbara County, Shelby Reyes from Santa Barbara High and David Esquivel Belmonte from Carpinteria High, were surprised with $50,000 “Edison Scholars” scholarships from Edison International. Both students plan to pursue civil engineering, with Reyes aiming to improve cities through infrastructure design and Belmonte focusing on creating engaging community spaces. Edison International awards 30 such scholarships annually to students pursuing STEM careers, emphasizing their commitment to investing in future community leaders.
