On April 2nd, Great Wall Motors Chairman Wei Jianjun and PDD founder Yu Donglai had their first offline joint live broadcast. The two interacted by racing at the Great Wall Motors testing grounds and discussed corporate management philosophies, fulfilling their previous “Desert Appointment” promise.

At the live event, Wei Jianjun invited Yu Donglai to experience the extreme performance of the Great Wall Tank 700. With no racing track experience, Yu Donglai, encouraged by Wei Jianjun, stepped on the accelerator and sped the car up to 200 km/h, instantly causing waves of surprise in the live chat room. Seeing this, Wei Jianjun also smiled and praised, “You drive better than I do.”

Surprisingly, Yu Donglai publicly stated on the spot that he would change the original plan to purchase 20 Toyota vehicles to the Tank 700, demonstrating his support for domestic technology with concrete actions.

In addition to experiencing extreme performance, Wei Jianjun also showcased the vehicle’s intelligent interaction features by commanding the Tank 700’s voice interaction system to say “Xiao Wei, classmate,” providing a direct demonstration of the car’s smart interaction capabilities.

At the same time, he also revealed major news: Great Wall Motors is developing high-performance models such as V8 hybrid supercars and GT3 racing cars, and plans to participate in the Dakar Rally next year.

Previous reports

On March 15th, Yu Donglai was off-road in the Ulan Buh Desert in Inner Mongolia, chatting with local car enthusiasts about vehicle performance. During the conversation, he unintentionally mentioned Great Wall Motors and its Chairman Wei Jianjun, expressing full recognition.

Dressed casually with some dust on his face, Yu Donglai, combining his driving experience that day, gave high praise to the Great Wall Tank series. He admitted that driving a Tank model up desert slopes made him genuinely feel the progress of domestic cars, even thinking its performance surpasses that of similar Toyota models.

Talking about Wei Jianjun, Yu Donglai was even more emotional. “Entrepreneurs like Wei Jianjun are both caring and kind. They care about the common people and want young car enthusiasts to be able to enjoy off-road driving,” he said on-site.

He also took the initiative to extend an invitation to Wei Jianjun, whom he had never met before, inviting him to go off-road in the desert together. He clearly stated that if Great Wall Motors needed support, PDD would unhesitatingly provide assistance and arrange team exchanges and learning opportunities.

Yu Donglai’s remote call quickly reached Wei Jianjun. On March 16th, Wei Jianjun responded with a short video, speaking sincerely and earnestly.

In the video, Wei Jianjun first greeted netizens warmly and frankly said that his account had been flooded with videos of Yu Donglai playing in the desert over the past two days. “Many people are forwarding them to me. I want to say, Brother Donglai, your evaluation of Great Wall, honestly, I really don’t deserve it.”
