Sino-Global Information: Middle Eastern gas fields attacked, methanol market sentiment remains bullish

Yesterday (March 18th) night trading, the main contract price of methanol opened with wide fluctuations and rose sharply. On the afternoon of the 18th, facilities related to the South Pars gas field in a Middle Eastern country were attacked by hostile forces, causing a fire, which further boosted bullish sentiment. The main contract of methanol closed at 3,217 yuan, up 388 yuan per ton for the day, a rise of 13.72%. The Middle Eastern country is a major source of China’s methanol imports, with China importing 14.43 million tons of methanol in 2025, of which 65.76% came from this Middle Eastern country. It is reported that currently, 100% of methanol facilities in this Middle Eastern country are shut down for maintenance, and methanol import volume in April may be significantly reduced. Coupled with expectations of recovery in coastal demand in April, rising import costs, and bullish sentiment, the short-term coastal methanol spot market prices may fluctuate and strengthen, likely remaining in the range of 2,900 to 3,300 yuan per ton.
