China-Laos Railway Cross-Border Cargo Trade Surpasses 80 Billion Yuan

This newspaper, Kunming, April 7.— Reporter Ye Chenzeng ( Data from the Mengla Customs under Kunming Customs shows: Since the China-Laos Railway began operations, as of April 7, the value of imports and exports has exceeded 80 billion yuan; the categories of import and export goods have expanded from more than 500 in the initial stage of operation to more than 3,800; it serves over 6,000 enterprises nationwide; and it reaches 19 countries and regions including Laos and Thailand, injecting momentum into high-quality co-building of the “Belt and Road” and promoting regional connectivity and mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.

In the first quarter of this year, the value of imports and exports handled by the China-Laos Railway reached 6.81 billion yuan, up 62.7% year on year, setting a new high for the same period in history. In terms of imports, the value of dried and fresh fruits and vegetables imported via the China-Laos Railway was 500 million yuan, doubling year on year; bulk commodities including grains, metal ores, and their mineral sands totaled 1.13 billion yuan, up 34.6% year on year.

In terms of exports, the “new three items” exported via the China-Laos Railway reached 1.3 billion yuan, surging 10.4 times year on year. Among them, photovoltaic products exported were 1.19 billion yuan, up 43.2 times year on year, and the foreign trade share containing “new” continues to climb. The China-Laos Railway is becoming an efficient two-way trade corridor for “Chinese manufacturing heading south and Southeast Asian specialties heading north.”
