Amazon to acquire Globalstar; inks deal with Apple to provide satellite services for iPhone, Watch
Amazon (AMZN) announced today it plans to acquire Globalstar (GSAT) satellites, which allows Amazon Leo to add direct-to-device services with its low Earth orbit network.
In addition, Amazon also inked a deal with Apple (AAPL) to enable Leo satellite services for iPhones and Apple Watches, allowing users to text emergency services, message friends and family, and request roadside assistance when they are beyond the reach of terrestrial cellular networks.
Globalstar shares had surged 9% during pre-market trading on Tuesday.
