To address the chaos caused by “AI modified” video dissemination, the National Radio and Television Administration launched a one-month special rectification campaign in January 2026, focusing on removing illegal videos that feature “AI modifications” of classic TV dramas based on the Four Great Classical Novels, historical themes, revolutionary themes, heroic figures, and other classic works, while also clearing various types of obscene animations. The campaign resulted in the removal of over 23,000 related illegal videos and the handling of more than 100 illegal accounts, effectively curbing the spread of such videos. Since February 1, the governance of “AI modified” videos has been carried out continuously through a normalized, institutionalized long-term mechanism. In response to the production and dissemination characteristics of illegal “AI modified” videos, the State Administration of Radio and Television has guided major online audiovisual platforms to further deepen their responsibilities, improve workflows, strengthen review capabilities, enhance daily inspections, resolutely remove illegal videos, and publish governance results monthly for social supervision. As of March 31, major online audiovisual platforms have removed nearly 29,000 illegal videos and handled over 40 illegal accounts. (CCTV News)
