Just spent way too long scrolling through real estate sites trying to figure out how much is a condo these days, and honestly the prices are wild depending on where you look. Like in San Francisco you're looking at like $800K median, but then I found these cities where you can actually snag something for under $100K which seems almost unreal.
So apparently Austin still has some pockets where apartments go for under $100K if you're willing to look at older developments or further out from downtown. Cincinnati's even more affordable with a generally low cost of living. Indianapolis and the suburbs around there seem pretty reasonable too if you don't mind the Midwest. Orlando has a ton of condos on the market which drives prices down, and Portland or Salt Lake City could work if you expand your search outside the main areas.
The thing is, how much is a condo really depends on whether you're buying a condo (you get the deed), a co-op (you own a share of the building), or doing some kind of rent-to-own situation. Co-ops are stricter about who they let in and have way more rules about renting it out. Condos give you more freedom to do what you want with your unit.
I'm still trying to figure out how much is a condo in places that actually have good job markets, because some of these super cheap markets might have a reason they're so affordable. But if you're flexible on location, the options are definitely out there. Anyone else been hunting for places under $100K? What did you find?
