PANews reported on November 11 that India's Supreme Court refused to consider a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) aimed at establishing a regulatory and guiding framework for cryptocurrency trading in India, according to Cointelegraph. The judge, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI), reportedly said after hearing the complaint that the petitioner's request was more legislative in nature. Given the nature of the petition, Judges J.D. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra dismissed the request. The Supreme Court noted that although the petitioner filed a PIL for regulation and guidance on cryptocurrencies and their transactions, the underlying goal was to obtain bail. Notably, petitioner Manu Prashant Wig is currently in Delhi police custody for a cryptocurrency case. The Economic Crime Unit (EOW) of the Delhi Police filed a complaint in 2020, accusing Wig of attracting individuals to invest in cryptocurrencies by promising higher returns. According to the report, Manu Prashant Wig serves as one of the directors of Blue Fox Films Ltd., attracting personal investment. Subsequently, the victim reported the fraud to the Economic Crime Department (EOW) in Delhi. A total of 133 investors or victims of invested funds filed lawsuits, alleging that Wig deceived them. In order to seek relief from judicial detention, petitioner Manu Prashant filed a PIL requesting the development of regulations and frameworks for cryptocurrency transactions in India. Despite the Supreme Court's dismissal of the PIL, the judge allowed the petitioner, who is currently in prison, to seek legal remedies and contact other relevant authorities.
