US Secretary Said We Will Be a Bitcoin Country: "A New Era Will Begin" - Coin Bulletin
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick announced that his country would accelerate Bitcoin (BTC) mining and that miners would reduce their dependence on the public grid by establishing their own energy facilities.
In a special interview featured in Bitcoin Magazine, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick discussed the vision for Bitcoin. Lutnick stated that thanks to the investment accelerator program launched by the Department of Commerce on March 31, 2025, Bitcoin mining companies would be able to operate independently by establishing their own energy facilities and data centers. With this project, miners could reduce their dependence on the public electricity grid by setting up their own power plants near natural gas deposits.
Lutnick, who stated that they consider Bitcoin as a valuable commodity like gold, said, “Bitcoin is a commodity and should be treated like oil and gold. Bitcoin is definitely not a currency”. The minister also indicated that Bitcoin could be included in the National Economic Accounts just like gold, and that the Bureau of Economic Analysis might consider using Bitcoin in its calculations.
Lutnick emphasized that the Bitcoin industry will receive significant support in the US, stating, “The Trump administration believes in Bitcoin. The US wants to take the success of the sector to the highest level by providing the best business environment for Bitcoin,”. Lutnick also mentioned that there was a negative approach towards the sector during the previous Biden administration, but now this era has closed forever:
This step is of great importance not only for increasing the economic value of Bitcoin, but also for reducing the environmental impact of the mining sector and supporting the energy independence of the United States. The serious consideration of including Bitcoin in the national economic plan of the United States could be a significant turning point for cryptocurrencies.
