According to 1M AI News monitoring, OpenAI has indefinitely postponed the launch of ChatGPT’s “Adult Mode.” The Financial Times of the UK reported that this decision was made as the company refocuses on its core products, and employees and investors have expressed concerns about the potential social impact of sexualized AI content.
OpenAI confirmed to the Financial Times that the product is currently on hold with no release schedule. The company stated that before making a product decision, they want to complete long-term research on the effects of explicit conversations and emotional dependence, and acknowledged that there is currently a lack of empirical evidence.
This is also the latest move by OpenAI to continue scaling back “side projects.” Reports from early March indicated that OpenAI had again delayed the launch of Adult Mode, citing the need to prioritize work that benefits “more users with higher priority,” including improving model intelligence, personality, and proactivity.
