BlockBeats message, April 2. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong posted on social media saying, “I’m going to start personally spending time on post-quantum security for Bitcoin. It looks like all of us need to address this sooner rather than later, not put it off.”

Previously, Coinbase’s Chief Security Officer Philip Martin said in a post that the latest quantum computing paper published by Google and the California Institute of Technology is an important signal for the entire industry. While the timeline is still up for debate, it’s time to take action now.

Coinbase has audited and upgraded its internal infrastructure, studied post-quantum cryptography, and formed a quantum advisory committee. Bitcoin needs to make rapid progress on this front, so Coinbase is playing the role of rallying the right people—Bitcoin core developers and the broader community—so they can get started on solving this problem.
