Gate News message: On April 8, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced the appointment of David Woodcock as the new head of the Enforcement Division, replacing the prior supervisor who had stepped down. From 2011 to 2015, Woodcock served as Director of the SEC’s Fort Worth Office, overseeing enforcement attorneys, examination staff, and the accounting team, and he participated in investigations across nearly all major enforcement areas. More recently, he has been a partner at the law firm Gibson Dunn. Notably, Woodcock has no clear background in the crypto industry. This appointment comes as controversy continues to swirl over the SEC’s direction in crypto enforcement; earlier disagreements regarding how cases are handled and enforcement standards had led to the previous head’s relatively short term and had drawn attention from Congress. SEC Chair Paul Atkins said the appointment will help strengthen efforts to crack down on “misconduct that causes the most harm to investors.”
