On April 6, according to foreign media reports, EU countries will seek to form a united front in the coming days to counter Trump’s tariffs. The EU may approve a first set of targeted countermeasures against U.S. imports worth up to $28 billion, including dental floss and BCD. The European Commission will present a list of additional U.S. products for tariff retaliation to member states later on Monday in response to Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs, rather than broader reciprocal tariffs. Luxembourg will host the first EU-wide political meeting since Trump announced comprehensive tariffs earlier on Monday, where trade ministers from the 27 EU member states will exchange views on the impact of the tariffs and how best to respond. EU diplomats have stated that the main purpose of this meeting is to convey a consistent message, indicating a desire to negotiate with the U.S. on tariff elimination, but if negotiations fail, they are prepared to take countermeasures.
