On April 8, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will face the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday. He is the official responsible for implementing the global tariffs announced by Trump last week. This is the first time Trump administration officials will testify in Congress since the tariffs were announced. As lawmakers question the scope and duration of Trump’s plan, Greer is expected to address concerns from both Republicans and Democrats regarding the tariffs. An increasing number of Republicans in Congress are worried about the impact of the tariffs on the U.S. stock market and global trade with allies. At least seven Republican senators have signed a bill to prevent Trump from unilaterally imposing tariffs; however, GOP leaders have indicated that the Senate will not consider the legislation following Trump’s veto threat on Monday.
