According to Wu, Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced that retaliatory measures in response to the United States’ tariffs on the Canadian automotive industry will officially take effect at 12:01 AM Eastern Time on April 9, 2025. The measures include a 25% tariff on complete vehicles imported from the United States that are not in compliance with the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), as well as a 25% tariff on the non-Canadian or Mexican originating portions of CUSMA-compliant complete vehicles.
