On April 9, the Argentine Chamber of Deputies voted on Tuesday to approve three draft resolutions that would establish a special commission to investigate the Libra cryptocurrency scandal linked to President Javier Milley since February, Decrypt reported. Liberal Forward MP Gabriel Bornoroni defended the president in the debate, suggesting that the opposition was creating a farce. The investigative body will summon key government officials, including the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, and the Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona, and will also invite the Chief of the Cabinet, Guillermo Francos, and the President of the National Securities Commission, Roberto Silva, to participate in the investigation. The market capitalization of the Libra token, once touted by Milley, soared to $4.5 billion at one point, but plummeted nearly 90% in a matter of hours on Feb. 14-15. Shortly after the crash, Milley deleted the promoted tweet and claimed he didn’t know the details of the project, and two days later the Argentine criminal court filed fraud charges. The crash resulted in a loss of more than $250 million for about 75,000 wallet holders. The Argentine congressional investigation runs parallel to an ongoing judicial investigation that is examining possible links between Milley and the developers of Libra. In March, an Argentine lawyer called for the arrest of Kelsier Ventures CEO Hayden Davis for pitching Libra to Milley at a conference in January.
