U.S. Customs: Tariff Declaration System Malfunction
On April 12, Jin10 reported that U.S. Customs announced that the system used to exempt freight tariffs has malfunctioned. The affected freight includes all trade goods from countries currently within the 90-day tariff suspension period implemented by the Trump administration. U.S. Customs stated that it has found the entry code used by U.S. shippers to apply for duty-free goods is unavailable, and "this issue is under review." For now, this means the U.S. government cannot temporarily collect tariffs. U.S. Customs indicated that it will release updates after the issue is resolved. Dewardric McNeal, a senior policy analyst at consulting firm Longview Global, stated that malfunctions do happen, but this timing is unfortunate, which will raise further questions about U.S. Customs' ability to keep up with tariff adjustments.
The US stock market is about to turn red again, with a fall of one percent rebounding back.

US Consumer Confidence and Inflation Expectations Deteriorate Sharply
Jin10 data, April 11 - US consumer confidence saw a sharp decline in April, with 12-month inflation expectations soaring to the highest level since 1981, amid unsettling escalations in trade tensions. On Friday, the University of Michigan reported that the consumer confidence index fell from a final value of 57.0 in March to 50.8, while economists had predicted the index would drop to 54.5. Joanne Hsu, director of the Consumer Survey Center, stated: "This decline is widespread across all ages, income levels, education, geographic regions, and political affiliations, and it is consistent." "Consumers reported multiple warning signs that increased the risk of an economic recession: expectations for business conditions, personal financial situations, income, inflation, and the labor market continued to worsen this month."

This inflation unfavourable information is significant, and it is unlikely that interest rates will be lowered.
