Received a call from law enforcement asking about crypto transactions? Don’t panic—these three tips will help you handle it calmly

At noon, I received a call from an unfamiliar number. After identifying themselves, the caller got straight to the point—asking about my crypto transaction activity.

Honestly, even seasoned veterans in the industry can’t help but feel their heart race at moments like this. But the more nervous you get, the easier it is to make mistakes. Stay calm and follow these key points, and you’ll usually get through it smoothly:

**Key Point 1: The transactions themselves are not illegal—make this clear from the start**

If they ask whether your transactions are legal, you can clarify:
"Buying and selling virtual currencies between individuals is not illegal in itself. However, if the source of funds is problematic, the user will be held responsible accordingly."

The key is to make it clear that you’re only conducting normal transactions through proper channels or between individuals—not involved in any illegal activities.

**Key Point 2: If asked to refund money, don’t get emotional**

If law enforcement says the funds you received might be problematic and need to be returned, the most important thing is to stay calm and communicate rationally. You can respond like this:
"I will fully cooperate with the investigation and follow the proper procedures."

Then, proactively provide transaction records, transfer receipts, and any relevant evidence. The more cooperative you are, the faster the issue will be resolved, and you can avoid affecting your other accounts. Trying to resist or not cooperate will only turn a small issue into a bigger one.

**Key Point 3: How you handle it depends on the situation—cooperation is always essential**

Here’s an important distinction:

If you’re found to be directly involved in illegal activity, all your accounts may be subject to action.
But if you were just making a normal transaction and unknowingly received problematic funds, usually only the receiving account will be affected.

The most crucial point: actively cooperating with an investigation won’t leave any negative record on you. But if you refuse to cooperate, it becomes a different matter, and follow-up actions will be much stricter.

**A few final words**

In the crypto world, every transaction hides potential risk. Always perform these "three checks" before trading:

Check if your counterparty is reliable (ideally, with real-name verification)
Check if the funds’ origin is clean
Check if the wallet address is secure

In this space, being cautious is always more important than making quick money. Protect your own wallet and don’t let yourself get caught up in trouble by accident.
