I saw with my own eyes the Shakyamuni Buddha finger relic that has crossed 2,500 years and was honored by eight emperors of the Tang Dynasty with the whole country’s effort to welcome it, the only one in the world widely recognized by the Buddhist community.
On the way back, we also visited the tomb of Ban Gu, the compiler of the Book of Han. Walking on this land of Xi'an, you can see everywhere traces of culture and history.
Honestly, everyone feels anxious when staring at K-line charts every day and reading about wealth myths that are hard to distinguish in various groups. But in front of such historical relics, you suddenly realize that the fluctuations and rises and falls we obsess over are so insignificant in the long river of time, almost like a speck of dust.
Investment is essentially a form of cultivating the mind. The pursuit of “unity of knowledge and action” is actually not much different from cultivation.
Walking around places like Famen Temple calms the mind and broadens the horizon. Just as Munger advocates long-termism, if you can view your holdings with a historical perspective, you can endure the boredom and loneliness of the present.
Slow is fast; quiet is strength. Xi'an truly deserves its reputation as a place of spiritual cleansing. May everyone find their own steadiness in this restless market.
