Lithium Mining Stocks Buying Guide: Analysis of the Top 9 Global Strong Stocks in 2025

In the first half of 2025, the lithium market experienced a prolonged adjustment period. Battery-grade lithium carbonate prices fell to a four-year low at the end of June, reaching only $8,329 per ton, while lithium hydroxide also declined simultaneously. Despite strong demand from electric vehicles, global lithium mine supply has significantly exceeded consumption needs. According to Fastmarkets’ forecast, there will be a surplus of 260,000 tons of lithium ore globally in 2025.

This situation has been driven not only by China’s capacity expansion and new competitive policies but also by the uncertainty of U.S. policies. However, in this context, some lithium mining stocks have achieved considerable gains. Why? Because the market ultimately believes in long-term trends—energy transition, artificial intelligence expansion, climate change response—that are the fundamental drivers of lithium demand.

Canadian Lithium Mining Stocks: Three Key Highlights

NOA Lithium Brines: 58.82% Annual Increase

This company owns three projects in the Argentine Lithium Triangle, totaling over 140,000 hectares. In April, it partnered with Hatch to initiate a preliminary economic assessment of its flagship Rio Grande project. The latest target production is 20,000 tons of lithium carbonate equivalent per year, with room to double capacity to 40,000 tons.

Even more exciting, NOA discovered freshwater sources near the northeast part of the project close to high-grade lithium deposits at the end of June. This well, drilled to 190 meters, is crucial for the arid Argentine plateau and will support future production facilities. The stock reached an annual high of CAD 0.425 on July 17.

Wealth Minerals: Steady 40% Growth

Focused on Chilean lithium development, Wealth Minerals also performed steadily this year. Its Pabellón project, acquired in February, has been shortlisted for a concession contract by the Chilean Ministry of Mining. Located in northern Chile near the Bolivia border, it covers 7,600 hectares. In May, Wealth also formed a joint venture with the Ollagüe Kichua indigenous community to advance the Kuska project, with Wealth holding 95% stake.

Avalon Advanced Materials: 37.5% Steady Rise

Avalon is integrating Ontario’s lithium supply chain. The company is developing three projects in Ontario, with the Separation Rapids deposit showing a 28% increase in measured and indicated resources in early 2025. In mid-July, Avalon secured CAD 1.3 million in funding from Lind Global Fund II for project development.

U.S. Lithium Mining Stocks: Three Major Players

SQM: Moderate Rise of a Global Lithium Giant

SQM is a leading global lithium producer, mainly operating in the Salar de Atacama salt flat in Chile. Its 2024 financial highlights include record lithium-iodide sales, but sluggish lithium prices suppressed revenue growth. In April, Chile’s competition regulator approved a cooperation agreement between SQM and state-owned copper giant Codelco. SQM’s stock increased by 10.43% in the first half of the year, with a high of $45.61 on March 17.

Lithium Americas: New Financing Supports Project Progress

Its flagship Thacker Pass project is the largest proven lithium resource in the world, located in northern Nevada, USA, developed jointly with General Motors (which owns 38%). In March, Lithium Americas secured $250 million from Orion Resource Partners, covering first-phase construction costs. In April, a final investment decision was made, targeting completion by the end of 2027. The annual increase was 9.67%.

Lithium Argentina: Steady Production, Bright Outlook

Spun off from Lithium Americas in October 2023, this company mainly operates the Caucharí-Olaroz salt flat project in Argentina, jointly developed with Ganfeng Lithium. In April, it signed a letter of intent with Ganfeng to jointly develop the Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes basin in Argentina. Q1 data showed a 15% YoY decrease in production, a planned adjustment to optimize recovery and reduce costs. The company expects full-year 2025 production of 30,000–35,000 tons of lithium carbonate. The annual increase was 8.46%.

Australian Lithium Mining Stocks: Three Dark Horses

Jindalee Lithium: Explosive 123.26% Surge

Jindalee focuses on the McDermitt lithium project, located on the Oregon-Nevada border, considered by the company as a potential low-cost, long-life lithium source in North America. In April, McDermitt became one of the first 10 resource projects approved under the Trump administration’s Fast-41 transparency program, prioritizing support for critical mineral supply chains. In July, Jindalee signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S. lithium refining company LiChem Operations to supply 100 kg of ore for testing.

Liontown Resources: Solid 75.47% Growth

Liontown owns two major assets in Western Australia. The Kathleen Valley mine entered open-pit mining in late 2024, with the processing plant reaching commercial production in January 2025. In April, it became Western Australia’s first lithium mine to enter underground mining. In its FY2025 report released in late July, Kathleen Valley produced over 300,000 tons of wet spodumene concentrate in the first 11 months of operation. The board was restructured in June, appointing new CFO and COO. The stock surged by 75.47% annually.

Anson Resources: Stable 57.14% Performance

Anson is developing two lithium projects in Utah’s Paradox Basin, using direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology. In March, it completed a pilot with Koch Technology Solutions, successfully extracting 43,000 gallons of lithium chloride leachate from brine in the Bosydaba #1 well at Green River, with a lithium recovery rate of 98%. Its first JORC resource estimate in June showed the well contained 103,000 tons of lithium carbonate equivalent.

More notably, on July 1, Anson signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s POSCO Holdings to jointly develop a DLE demonstration plant, fully funded by POSCO. Within two weeks, Anson shipped 2 tons of lithium brine for testing and announced that its polishing system successfully reduced trace impurities in the chlorinated lithium leachate from the Koch pilot. These developments pushed the stock price to a yearly high of CAD 0.11 in late July.
