How big is the psychological gap for Ethereum holders this year? Technical upgrades frequently top trending searches—L2 transaction fees plummeting, ecosystem iteration accelerating—the result is still a sea of green in accounts. From $4900 down to now, some are shouting "Ethereum is being shorted," while others are eager to buy the dip. But the true story behind this market movement might be misunderstood by most.

This is not simply a collapse. To be precise, Ethereum is actively transforming—from a "speculative asset" to a "global financial infrastructure." It is currently stuck in the most painful transition period.

The old story goes like this: ETH was once popular because of the "Ultrasound Money" concept. The more it is used, the scarcer it becomes, and EIP-1559 directly burns transaction fees, which sounds perfect. But after the 2024 Dencun upgrade and the 2025 Fusaka upgrade, everything changed. The technology became a problem—L2 transaction fees dropped by 90%, users migrated en masse to Layer 2, the mainnet blocks no longer congest, and the burning rate plummeted.

Does it look like self-destruction? Actually, it’s intentional. The Ethereum team has long figured this out: relying on scarcity to become a celebrity is only a flash in the pan. To build a century-long foundation, it must become infrastructure. L2 is not competing with L1 for resources; the Base chain’s annual revenue of $75 million is fundamentally about expanding Ethereum’s domain—digesting retail transactions, enabling high-frequency small-value operations on L2, while L1 focuses on large-value settlements and RWA (real-world asset on-chain) scenarios that require strong trust. This is not decline, but division of labor.

Technical excellence but still crashing the market—that irony is really biting. --- Wait, do I have to sell just because transaction fees are breaking? I don't quite get this script. --- From speculative assets to infrastructure, it sounds high-end but my wallet doesn't agree. --- So now everyone holding is a believer, retail investors probably already ran away. --- L2 is hot, so the mainnet is useless? I can't quite buy this division of labor logic. --- The truth is, the coin price should fall and will fall; no matter how advanced the technology is, it can't save the account's green. --- "Centennial enterprise" makes me want to laugh; is there really such a long-term vision in crypto? --- If I had known it would turn out like this, why bother hyping ultrasonic currency? Now all the trash talkers are just bagholders. --- Base's annual revenue of 75 million sounds impressive, but what about the ETH holders? --- Shifting to infrastructure is just a nice-sounding phrase; basically, it means there's no more speculative value.

The saying about being stuck in the transition period is interesting, but to be honest... I still feel sorry for my ETH haha --- Regarding the sharp drop in L2 fees, the profit-making effect is indeed gone, but in the long run, it might really be a strategic move --- "Centennial enterprise" sounds fancy, but right now I just want to know when it will return to 4900... --- I've heard this infrastructure rhetoric too many times, I just want to ask: when will my money come back? --- Clear division of labor is a good thing, but retail investors still have to suffer losses; high-frequency trading goes to L2 to enjoy the benefits --- Technological upgrades leading to a decline in burn volume, this reversal is indeed a bit harsh, early investors have to accept reality --- Wait, L1 focuses on large-scale settlements... does that mean my small holdings have already become useless? --- Watching others on the Base chain earn 75 million, while my account is all green, it's a bit ironic

empirically speaking, this layer separation thesis is just governance theater if we don't actually measure settlement finality costs across the stack. where's the data on L1 vs L2 capital efficiency post-fusaka? nobody's publishing the real kpis

Oh my God, it's that "infrastructure" explanation again... It sounds like they're just looking for reasons to justify the price drop.

Oh my God, another argument that "Ethereum will become infrastructure." I just want to ask—can infrastructure go up?

Technical dominance, coin price embarrassment, this is the most heartbreaking part, haha
