The permanent digital license in Mexico City is now available for transfer to your phone, transforming the way drivers carry this official document. However, accessing this online service depends on meeting specific conditions set by the capital’s system.

Who can apply online?

The fundamental requirement to request the permanent digital license remotely is to have current biometric data and a recent record of a Mexico City driver’s license. Those who meet these criteria can complete the entire process at licenciapermanente.cdmx.gob.mx without needing to schedule an appointment or visit an office.

If your biometrics are not up to date, you must schedule an appointment and appear in person at the Semovi offices. Similarly, drivers applying for the first time must pass a theoretical driving course before their document is issued.

The digital process: step by step

For those who meet the requirements, the process begins by accessing Llave CDMX Expediente. Within your account, select the new procedure option and choose your payment method. Then, upload your official ID, proof of no debts, and the theoretical course certificate.

Payment is reflected within a maximum of 72 hours. Once processed, you will receive an email with a certificate containing your permanent license number updated. This same certificate remains available for download within your record.

If you already have a valid license and only want the digital version on your phone, there is a faster route. Download the App CDMX, log into Cartera CDMX, and add your driver’s license credential. The system will ask you to verify your information by entering your CURP and license number as they appear on the physical document.

The permanent digital license remains priced at 1,500 pesos through 2026. The document is fully valid in both digital and physical versions, and there is an option to print the plastic card at no additional cost until December 2026.
