Subsequently, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin issued a statement confirming, “The DAO Security Fund has been officially launched, and more than 75,000 ETH will be used to strengthen Ethereum security.” On June 17, 2016, a breach in The DAO contract resulted in hackers stealing approximately 3.6 million ETH, which eventually led to an Ethereum hard fork, resulting in two chains, ETH and ETC.
