Prenetics halts Bitcoin purchases to focus on promising crypto outcomes

Prenetics, the health science company co-founded by David Beckham, has decided to end its bitcoin purchasing strategy by the end of 2025. The decision follows ongoing weakness in the crypto market and represents a strategic pivot back to the core activity IM8, which has shown explosive growth since its launch in May last year.

Bitcoin accumulation halted, focus reoriented to IM8

On December 4, the company announced it would cease daily bitcoin purchases to fully allocate resources to IM8. This marks a turning point for the company, which raised $48 million in October for this promising crypto treasury strategy. CEO Danny Yeung stated that the “phenomenal” performance of IM8 has exceeded all expectations, with more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue since inception.

The company initially adopted Michael Saylor’s strategy model, where organizations accumulate cryptocurrencies for their balance sheets. This enthusiasm waned after the sharp market declines in October 2025.

Retain 510 BTC as strategic reserve assets

Although Prenetics no longer actively purchases bitcoin, the organization will hold its existing 510 bitcoin as reserve assets. Based on the current price of $78.77K, the value of this position is approximately $40 million. This signals that the company maintains confidence in the long-term outlook for cryptocurrencies.

Strategic choice for sustainable growth

The board of directors and management reached a consensus: the most promising path to shareholder value lies in a full focus on IM8. Prenetics’ stock has risen 189% this year, underscoring the success of this reorientation. The company consciously prioritizes core activities over further crypto purchases, a policy shift that reflects the volatility of digital markets.
