On January 29, a crypto card based on Visa was launched in El Salvador, which is radically different from traditional crypto payment tools on the market. This crypto card allows users to spend USDT directly from their private wallets, maintaining full control over their assets without the need for centralized storage.

How the revolutionary Truther crypto card works

The key feature of this crypto card is its architecture, based on the principle of self-custody. When making a purchase, funds are deducted from the user’s wallet in real-time. “You transfer the required amount to the card in advance,” explains founder Roselo Lopez. “If the hotel bill is 30 euros, the equivalent in USDT is instantly deducted at the current exchange rate.”

The system charges a 2% fee for currency conversion, although this rate may be adjusted. For Brazilian users, there is a significant advantage – no IOF tax on financial transactions. The crypto card operates on the Polygon blockchain with plans to migrate to the Liquid network to enhance privacy.

Advantages of the non-trading model over traditional solutions

Unlike competitors that require pre-funding or transferring funds to third-party custodians, the Truther crypto card retains all the benefits of decentralized control. The user determines the exact amount they are willing to spend and the time frame for its use. This approach provides an unprecedented level of security and flexibility.

The payment infrastructure has already processed a significant volume of transactions – currently, the system handles approximately 40 million dollars daily, linking stablecoins such as USDT with Brazil’s PIX instant payment system. This demonstrates the platform’s readiness for mass adoption.

Expansion of the crypto card into Latin America

Following the successful launch in El Salvador – the country where Bitcoin received official status as a means of payment – Truther plans aggressive expansion of its services. The company’s Swapix API, which provides instant conversions of cryptocurrencies into local fiat currencies, will be launched in Argentina, then expanded to Mexico and Colombia.

These markets were chosen due to their 24/7 payment infrastructure and support for QR code-based transactions – key factors for real-time settlements. By early 2026, additional local stablecoins, including Tether Gold and tokens pegged to the Argentine peso, are planned for integration.

Future prospects for the crypto card and market

The Truther wallet supports BTC, USDT, and its own stablecoin pegged to the Brazilian real on the Liquid network. Users can make payments via QR codes or receive stablecoins without paying network fees. The company also hinted at collaborations with traditional banks to integrate stablecoins into their platforms, although specific details remain undisclosed.

Founder Lopez forecasts a potential tripling of stablecoin volumes over the next 12 months due to the influx of traditional financial players into the ecosystem. This optimism is justified by the growing interest of major payment systems in cryptocurrencies – recently, Visa began testing stablecoin payouts for content creators and freelancers.
