The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) released a report stating that illegally mined gold from the Amazon region is increasingly being traded via USDT in Venezuela. The report indicates that over the past two years, Venezuela has become a major destination for illegal Amazonian gold, with some gold from Guyana being settled locally in USDT. Venezuela’s gold industry earned approximately $2.2 billion last year. Tether stated that the company has helped global law enforcement agencies freeze about $4.3 billion in assets related to illegal activities. (Decrypt)
