Epic Microsystems Secures 37.4 Billion Won Funding for AI Data Center Power Innovation
Epic Microsystems aims to power the next generation of AI data centers and has secured $21 million in initial funding. Led by Seligman Ventures, this Series A funding round also included Intel Capital, Iconiq Ventures, Cambium Capital, and others, bringing the total investment to $26 million.
Current AI workloads are not only creating demand for new data centers but also driving efforts to improve the efficiency of existing facilities. As the power requirements for AI racks have surged dramatically over the past few years, traditional low-voltage power transmission systems are nearing their limits. In response, Epic Microsystems plans to adopt a hybrid switched capacitor architecture to replace inductor-based systems, increasing power density and improving thermal performance. This will free up space within racks for more computing and cooling equipment.
Epic’s CEO, Sabin Eftimi, stated, “The new power transmission method for AI data centers will not only meet today’s needs but also aid in future roadmap design.” He expects this technology to play a key role in the transition to the upcoming multi-megawatt era.
