AI threat management is a solution to address the shortage of cybersecurity talent!
AI-powered threat management is becoming a key solution to address the cybersecurity talent shortage. Currently, companies face over 7,000 password attacks per second, and relying solely on human analysts has limitations. In this context, Scott Woodgate, General Manager of Microsoft Threat Protection, emphasizes that automating threat management with AI is crucial. AI can handle basic tasks like phishing investigations, allowing security experts to focus on proactive threat detection.
He explains that there are millions of cybersecurity job vacancies worldwide, and collaboration between AI agents and humans can help solve this problem. During an interview with Christophe Bertrand at RSAC 2026, Woodgate highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration and information sharing, stating, “Threat intelligence sharing between nations is a core element in staying ahead of attackers.”
AI agents improve security work through rapid information processing and automation but still require human oversight. Woodgate compares this to the transition to cloud security and adds that it enables security teams to focus on higher-value tasks. He emphasizes, “The key is to use AI to enhance our capabilities and create more value.”
This interview was conducted at SiliconANGLE Media’s live studio, theCUBE, and includes discussions on how technological developments will impact the cybersecurity industry.
