According to Mars Finance, on March 30, Aladdin Boroujerdi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, stated on March 30 local time that, in light of the current international security situation and external threats, Iran is seriously considering withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and plans to implement stricter access and fee systems for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Boroujerdi also mentioned that Iran currently has complete control over this strategic waterway. He revealed that Iran plans to establish a brand-new management system for the strait, based on Turkey’s management model for the Bosporus Strait and Egypt’s management of the Suez Canal, requiring vessels passing through the strait to obtain permission from Iran and pay corresponding transit and service fees.
