OpenAI founder Sam Altman's residence was attacked with a Molotov cocktail.
Deep Tide TechFlow News, April 11, according to reports from Fox News and NBC News, an OpenAI spokesperson confirmed that the San Francisco Police Department earlier on Friday arrested a suspect. The suspect was accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at the residence of OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman and also made threats outside the AI giant’s San Francisco headquarters. OpenAI said, “Fortunately, no one was injured.” The company added, “We are very grateful that the San Francisco Police Department was able to respond so quickly, and we appreciate the support provided by the city government in ensuring the safety of our employees. The suspect has been detained, and we are assisting the police with the investigation.” As of now, Altman has not made a public statement regarding the arrest.
In another statement, the San Francisco Police Department said that earlier on Friday, officers responded to a residence in San Francisco’s North Beach area, “due to a fire investigation.” The suspect fled on foot, and a description of his features has been circulated to all officers. Subsequently, the San Francisco Police Department received a report and rushed to a shop at 1400 Third Street to handle an incident involving “an unidentified man threatening to burn down the building.” (OpenAI headquarters is located at 1455 Third Street.) The police stated, “When officers arrived at the scene, they recognized that the man was the same suspect from the previous incident and immediately detained him.”
The suspect is reportedly a 20-year-old man.
