The Spokane City Council announced on Monday that, by unanimous vote, the city has become the first in Washington State to ban Crypto Assets ATM machines.

This measure was proposed by City Councilman Paul Dillon. He stated that crypto assets ATMs “have become the preferred tool for scammers to defraud unsuspecting victims,” and that this ban will “protect the vulnerable residents of Spokane from scams involving virtual currency kiosks.”

He stated that this measure “will ban future crypto asset ATMs and dismantle existing self-service terminals. We found that many self-service terminals are located in impoverished communities, convenience stores, and grocery stores.”

According to the decree, the city of Spokane has seen a significant increase in fraud cases arising from the use of Crypto Assets self-service terminals, with the number of cases where victims lost thousands of dollars steadily rising.
