Japan allows US Navy to deploy 'Osprey' transport aircraft for the first time

According to Kyodo News on August 27th, Fukuda Yoshihiko, the mayor of Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, stated at the city council on the 27th local time that the U.S. Navy will be allowed to deploy the “Osprey” transport aircraft at Iwakuni Base. The U.S. Navy will deploy the “Osprey” transport aircraft for the first time in Japan. The frequent accidents involving the “Osprey” transport aircraft have sparked strong opposition from the Japanese public to the U.S. Navy’s deployment plan at Iwakuni Base. Last month, some civilian groups in Iwakuni City held a protest rally calling for the withdrawal of this plan.
