According to the Associated Press, according to a memo from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management on Tuesday, the Trump administration directed that all federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) workers should be on paid leave, and agencies should develop layoff plans. The memorandum follows Trump’s first day in office signing an executive order to abolish the federal government’s diversity and inclusion programs in its entirety. The memo directs agencies to put DEI office staff on paid leave by 5 p.m. local time Wednesday and close all public web pages related to DEI by the same deadline. Some federal departments deleted the pages even before the memo was published. By Thursday, federal agencies must compile a list of federal public information offices and staff as of Election Day. It is expected that by next Friday, they will draw up a list of “redundancy actions” against these federal workers.
