US media: US holds secret talks with Hamas on Gaza hostage issue

The talks, led by U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler, are unprecedented. One source said that while the Trump administration has consulted with Israel on the possibility of contact with Hamas, Israel has been informed of various aspects of the talks through other channels. A key focus of the talks is the release of American hostages, within Boehler’s mandate as a hostage envoy. The sources said they also discussed a broader protocol to release all remaining hostages and achieve a long-term ceasefire. However, a protocol has not yet been reached.
