This move is seen as significant for the market and is independent of the SEC's ongoing review of proposed rules for crypto asset issuance. An SEC spokesperson stated that the commission will develop interpretive guidance regarding the classification of crypto asset tokens to clarify regulatory obligations for investors and innovators. Once the guidance document completes inter-agency review, it will be put to a vote by three commissioners.
