The U.S. Department of Justice announced the disbandment of the prosecution team that was specifically targeting Crypto Assets crimes. Deputy Attorney General Todd Branch stated in a public memorandum that the Department of Justice will no longer focus on Crypto Assets cases involving banking and securities laws, and declared that “the Department of Justice is not the regulatory agency for digital assets.”
This move is the latest initiative by the U.S. government to promote the development of the Crypto Assets industry, and it reverses efforts by the previous administration to crack down on criminal activities using digital assets. The dissolution of the national cryptocurrency enforcement team is seen as positive news for Crypto Assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin.
The U.S. government has also reduced the enforcement力度 of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Crypto Assets. Justice Department officials stated that their current focus is on combating illegal immigration, gangs, and drug crimes rather than on cryptocurrency companies and entrepreneurs.
The national cryptocurrency enforcement team was created by former President Biden, and its mission is to combat cryptocurrency exchanges and other entities that “abuse crypto assets and related technologies to commit or facilitate criminal activities.” The memorandum from the Department of Justice states that the dissolution of the national cryptocurrency enforcement team is effective immediately.
