以太坊联合创始人 Vitalik Buterin 近日在最新博文中系统阐述了一个核心观点：以太坊不可能、也不应该仅靠“更快的速度”取胜。在他看来，物理定律与去中心化的基本要求，决定了公链共识机制存在天然的延迟上限，以太坊真正可持续的扩展方向是带宽扩展，而非无限压缩区块时间。
Buterin 将以太坊主网定义为“世界心跳”，而不是高频交易引擎。他指出，通过 PeerDAS、零知识证明（ZKP）以及 zkEVM 等技术，以太坊已经找到了在保持去中心化前提下实现数量级扩展的路径。自 2025 年 12 月 Fusaka 升级以来，以太坊链上新增地址数量增长超过 110%，显示出扩容路线的实际成效。
相比之下，降低延迟面临更严苛的限制。光速本身、全球节点分布、家庭级硬件运行验证节点的现实条件，以及验证者的抗审查性和匿名性需求，都会限制区块时间的进一步压缩。Buterin 认为，即便通过优化点对点网络和减少每个时隙的验证者数量，区块时间最多也只能降低至 2–4 秒，再往下将遭遇无法通过工程手段解决的物理与经济瓶颈。
在人工智能应用层面，Buterin 也给出了清晰判断。他指出，高速运行的 AI 系统需要城市级甚至建筑级的本地基础设施，无法依赖全球同步的主链完成即时交互。这正是 Layer 2 网络存在的意义：以太坊主网负责全球可信结算，而 Rollup 生态负责承载高速、本地化、应用密集型场景。
在另一篇文章中，Buterin 还将以太坊类比为 Linux 或 BitTorrent 这样的基础设施型技术：不追求极致体验，而是成为被全球用户和机构“默默依赖”的底层系统。这一定位正在获得机构认可，摩根大通、德意志银行等金融机构已基于以太坊开发代币化产品。
整体来看，Vitalik Buterin 的最新表态为“以太坊速度之争”划清了边界：以太坊的核心竞争力不在毫秒级延迟，而在去中心化前提下实现全球规模的可信协作，这正是以太坊长期价值所在。
